Aurora sat down on the soft pine needles. The forest was lush was green. Years of pine needles and leaves piled upon the ground made for a cushy carpet. The sun had already started to set when Aurora and Hermes and slipped out of the pub. It grew dark before they had even reached the forest. Aurora was tired and irritated. She assumed the mysterious man was a no-show. She had waited as long as she dared...no matter she was used to doing things alone and she accepted that she could find out about her past without help too.
Hermes had immediately fallen asleep. Aurora always took first watch anyways. Finding wood hadn't been easy in the dark, but she had felt around for enough pieces to get a fire going. The night air was a little chilly and the fire felt nice. She sat next to it and thought about what her next step would be. She hadn't want to go in alone but she knew she would have to cross into the borders of Nuviel. She could probably pass for an elf there but she'd have to change her style of dress and clean up a lot. She hoped she would find her answers there. She was just about to get up and put more wood into the fire when she heard a noise.

Mirabel led Aridan to the spot which she had left from her travels in the Forest months ago. She turned around, at the outskirts of the Forest, and looked over at the view from which she fell in love with. She could see Belkdale Theatre, now her home, and the beautiful village with the hustle and bustle of shopkeepers and merchants.
She looked over at the Mage. She knew he was waiting for the next step. Mirabel looked back at him and said,"I know that Nuviel is located in the center of the Forest. During my travels, I stayed towards the West. So, if we head East, we should be on the right track. The path forks a mile from here, so we should get going."
The two began walking in silence. Mirabel looked at all of the trees in remembrance. How her life has changed in such a short time.

Aridan was pleased the Mirabel knew where she was going, because he certainly did not. The trees upon trees that grew along the sides of the narrow path and beyond blurred together, each one looking more and more similar to the last. Aridan thought ruefully that his knowledge of flora outside those which had magical uses was incredibly limited, and was determined to increase his knowledge of mundane plants when he returned to the Tower.
Alastor padded along silently behind him, his small black feet making no noise against the brush of the forest floor. It's been a while since we've been outside the city, said Alastor inside his mind, it's good to get some fresh air. Fresh air indeed, Aridan wasn't sure he much cared for this place that was home to all manner of terrible creatures and dangerous enemies, but he was at least comforted that Mirabel knew where she was going.
Once the sun had set behind the mountains to the north, Aridan suggested that they make camp. It would be pointless, not to mention incredibly dangerous, to continue the journey in darkness. After rolling out their bed roles, Aridan walked around the small camp, speaking under his breath in muttered incantation, drawing a line in the air around where they would sleep. This Alarm Spell would not keep anyone, or anything, out of the camp, but it would at least set off a noise that would alert them that there was danger.
After scattering the cinders of the fire so that it would die down, they got into their bedrolls, and tried to go to sleep.

The noise that had alerted her was strange. It wasn't familiar to her ears. Aurora jumped up and immediately began circling her camp. The forest was so thick she knew that anyone could get easily sneak up on them and her not even realize it. She quickly stamped out her fire. She didn't want to be target just in case they weren't looking for her. She let her eyes adjust to the growing darkness. It took a minute before she could see the dark shapes of trees and shrubbery. The noise she had heard was still sounding she didn't quite understand the origin of it. She stood quietly and listened. Then she began to follow its sound.
She made her way through the trees. Hermes padded quietly at her side. His night vision even more clear than her own. She walked quickly through the forest for about 500 yards. She couldn't believe she had camped as close to other people. She could see small glowing embers of a dying fire. Just as she started to walk closer a shape grabbed her from behind. Hermes immediately attacked and clawed the unknown assailant. The dark mass was on the ground she pulled out her daggers ready for a battle.

The alarm spell went off with three loud BONGs . Aridan got to his feet at once to see what, or who, had set off his magical defenses. Squinting through the darkness he thought he could see movement off the edge of the camp. Alastor scanned the surrounding forest, his cat eyes far superior to Aridan's, and said, Over there, there's someone moving .
Aridan spoke a short incantation and blew into his right palm, and there glowed a soft white light. He raised his hand over his head, allowing him to view the people that were lurking in the dark.

The carriage slowly creeps down the narrow road that leads into the great forest. As the carriage enters the forest, Xavier peers out the window. As he looks out into the trees Xavier sees a light of some sort. He orders the coachman to stop the carriage. “I will continue on foot from here” he says. He starts his trek through the woods towards the light. He can’t see where it is coming from but he hears voices. It didn’t seem far away. Xavier stopped in his tracks. A bird was circling above him. He thought to himself about what his move would be should he stumble across someone who was not forthcoming with him. He decided that he would stay out of range of the person who was talking. He set up a small defensive area around a large oat tree. He sat down and waited.
After a few hours of waiting and listening a very loud BONG BONG BONG rang through the forest. Xavier Jumped up and prepared himself for a fight. His blood was pumping. Not from fear from excitement. He stood there waiting and listening, prepared for anyone to come along.

Everything happened in a whirlwind of events. Hermes had taken down the assailant that had grabbed her from behind. The person wasn't dead but wasn't moving either. Her breathing was coming in slowly despite that her heart rate was racing. She searched around for anyone else. Anything else that could attack her. Her adrenaline-widened eyes took in everything: the mass on the ground, the glow of something or someone that was just a few steps away, and another person that was lurking in the shadows. Friend or foe she wasn't sure of .
She stayed in a fighting stance waiting to see if anyone else would attack her. She waited for a few moments her heartbeat thundering in her ears. She slowly turned to the person that a glowing hand. She had known he couldn't have been part of the attack. He didn't have the same smell as the other. She slowly lowered her daggers and put them away. The other man lurking in the woods would have attack by now if he had wanted. She would have to assume he meant them no harm for the time being.
"Who are you?" Aurora turned and faced the man that had a light in his hand. He did not look as if he belonged in the woods. She kept her body tense and ready for anything...she couldn't relax yet as she didn't know who he was.

The fight was over before Aridan could make sense of what was going on. As his Glow spell illuminated the clearing around him, Aridan was quick to notice the details of the scene.
A young woman stood before him, standing with her hands on her hips, having just sheathed two small daggers. Behind her, a massive tiger prowled, and at its feet, a hooded man, or at least what appeared to be a man, laid unconscious or dead.
"Who are you?" the woman had said. Aridan was annoyed. That hardly seemed the proper question for someone who had just burst into someone else's camp. He should be asking the questions of the intruder, not the other way around.
He decided it would be pointless to bring this up, and proceeded to answer her. "I am Aridan Istary, Mage of Liadith. This is Mirabel Pippery, a bard of Belkdale Theater."
The introduction was already becoming tedious. Aridan wanted his own questions answered. "And who, might I ask, are you? We are travelers in this forest and you have awoken us from much needed sleep. Why have you set off my Alarm spell, and why are you in this forest?"
Aridan tried to put as much authority into his voice as he could, as his words were his greatest weapon against attackers, and if this woman decided to fight them, there was little he was going to be able to do about it.
