Character Races of Liadith
The Realm of Liadith is made up to two races, human and elves. These two races exist harmoniously together, but at times racial tensions rise and conflict develops. Each race has its own unique history of triumphs and failures, but many of these ancient stories are lost to time. Of course, with humans and elves living so close together, there have been rare cases where half-elves have been born. Use these descriptions as guidelines for developing the racial background of your character, but feel free to expand as you like.
Humans-
Humans established the Realm of Liadith by the work of it's first king and founder, Farius, and they have ruled it since that day. Humans are capable and flexible, applying themselves to all manor of tasks and doing well them. This may because human's lives are shorter, as they reach adulthood at around age 16, they mature quickly and learn quickly. Human emotion is swayed easily and they can be quick to act, where elves are much more methodical in making their plans. Many humans would rather be good at several areas of skill rather than apply themselves entirely to one enterprise.
Elves-
Elves are an ancient and mysterious race that hails from the neighboring kingdom of Nuviel, deep inside the Great Forest. The elves were living in Nuviel long before King Farius came to found Liadith, and remember well the wars that were fought over the land that would become the human kingdom. Today, the elves and the humans live in a friendly alliance. Elves live almost three times as long as humans, and so their children mature much more slowly, reaching adulthood at around age 40. Elves are beautiful and strong, but they are often prone to haughtiness and arrogance when it comes to dealing with their human neighbors. Elves pride themselves in knowledge and expertise in their chosen field, but this often causes them to neglect other areas while they are mastering one.
Half-Elves-
In very rare cases, a human and an elf might fall in love and produce a child. A half-elf, or half-human, has many of the characteristics of both races, exhibiting the elves' beauty and the human's ingenuity. Despite this (or perhaps because of it), half-elves are often social outcasts, not being fully human and not being fully elven. However, half-elves are resilient and do well inside the city. They often reach maturity around 25 and live about twice as long as humans.
